Factors affecting tooth scaling experience of Korean adolescents

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives.The study was undertaken to identify factors affecting tooth scaling with the aim of enhancing the procedure in korean adolescent.
Methods.The subjects of the study were 74,698 subjects who answered to the 2007 korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based survey. The responses of 73,836 subjects were used for the final analysis. Analyses conducted using SPSS version 12.0 included Chi-square test to identify tooth scaling rate according to subject characteristics and a multivariate logistic regression analysis to determined independent significance.
Results.Of the respondents, 10,060 (25.6%) had received tooth scaling. School Grade municipality of residence and economic level were significantly associations with scaling. The practice of scaling displayed significant point, related difference depending on general characteristics and oral health. Multiple logistics regression analysis revealed significant independent variables were school grade, city of residence undiminished healthy, tobacco smoking, bleeding gums, sealant experience and previous fluoridation.
Conclusions.Public policy is needed to prevent economic constraints from worsening oral health. The importance of oral health should be communicated.
